The Dividing Wall
minus the hat
I went down
To the dividing wall
And reached out to my brothers and my sisters in war
For far out across the land
Too many felled by violent hands
I shed my skin
‘Cause I smelled death
Clawing on the wind
Couldn’t catch my breath
The dogs howl
All throughout the night
Prowling the streets by neon light
vultures croon in a hypnotic line
While the hungry starve and our innocence dies
A prophet sleeps
Beneath the stone
Buried with the dust and bone
Something stirs
Perhaps a turning tide
Where the dogs will scatter
And a dream is edified
I stopped and stood
Still as a tree
Rising from the earth
Let the reckoning be
Let time reveal
Whatever shall remain
A spirit of the deep
A keeper of the flame
I had a dream of the breaking dawn
A dark night of the soul
And a visit from beyond
The further I looked out
The less I could recall
But I know the walls between us will finally fall
A prophet sleeps
Beneath the stone
Buried with the dust and bone
I stopped and stood
Still as a tree
Rising from the earth
Let the reckoning be
Let time reveal
Whatever shall remain
A spirit of the deep
A keeper of the flame
