The Lady and the Captain
mindwarp
There was a faire lady lived far from the sea
In the land of the elk and the maple tree
Far in the north she made her sweet home
Where the snow falls all night like a beautiful poem
Her heart it beat heavy absent from glee
For her Captain was long lost out in the sea
One day a letter came in the mail
Her captain was safe, sound and back from his sail
There once was a captain who lived by the sea
Except for the whiskers he looked just like me
He traveled far from the sea through the hills
To the land of his lady with the snow on the sills
He came to a tavern with ale so divine
And got drunk and forget his lady so fine
She hemmed and she hawed and she and pouted so blue
She waited in earnest for her captain so true
He left the said tavern and fell on his bum
At her feet fell the captain with a bottle of rum
To her dismay he swigged from the bottle right there
And she picked up the captain by his last surly hair
“Oh my lady I’ve found you” the captain did say
And he kissed on her noggin but she pushed him away
“You devil, you scoundrel”, the faire lady cried out
But her heart began melting as the captain did shout
“My faire lady I’ve come from the sea far away”
“For the words from my lips cannot they betray”
“I love you my lady my forlorn white dove “
“As deep as the sea runs so does my love”
Spring had arisen, and the birds took alight
And their love it did blossom like tulips so bright
Wedding bells rang from the belfry so loud
As tears fell on cheeks like rain from a cloud
They were joined in the chapel, the preacher looked on
As the lady and captain danced away down the lawn.
The captain and the lady are together tonight
To behold all the glory of a full happy life …
