SILVER CITY
Psych Folk – This was Danville Dan’s favorite GEM tune, and I knew it would be when I wrote it.
SILVER CITY
Wish I were in Silver City
Somewhere in New Mexico
Where I would eat all the pine nuts
And where I’d go panning for gold
Wish I were in Silver City
On the Continental Divide
Where I would chase Gila monsters
Inside the cliff dwellings they hide
Wish I were in Silver City
Somewhere in New Mexico
‘Though I have never been through there
That is where someday I’ll go
Wonder if folks there will like me
If they’d make good company
I would play guitar to charm them
Come summer I’d serve them ice tea
If I die ’fore I should get there
If the Lord takes me away
Bury me in Silver City
And here’s what my tombstone should say:
“Here lies what was a song-writer
Here in our tranquil city
’Though he had never been through here
Here’s where he wanted to be”
