weed whackers whine in the air,
chain-link fences hunched over,
Like rusted-out old men in unheard prayer.
The porch light flickers,

Bridge
In our valley, a train whistle fades,
like memories of all things past.
I sit in a bar whose name I can’t place
the names of the songs I can’t grasp
memories are ghosts for those who survive.
watching the peeling paint and the rust,
Swallow the corners of my life
