The City Still Exists

Awash in cold glow
Of the Neon Light
Moving Too Slow
To View the Dilute Skyline

Of a city that now
feels like a tomb
The few that are left
have checked out of the room

these streetways may’ve seen better days
no life they could conceive
but the city still exists
if I believe

skyscrapers forming coffins
reaching out like deadwood trees
but the city still exists
if I believe

in the city
on a down day
fickle shoppers
shuffle step

down to the market
one block away
impatient drivers
lay on their car horns

don’t tell me
it’s delusion
don’t want to believe
it’s all mirage

I must maintain the illusion
Keep the city lights
from going dark
