Horses and Mars
Jeff Gordon
September 10 - Feeling like the well is running dry lyrically (I know that’s not true and is really fear, doubt, and resistance). Grabbed this title from the FAWM Muse site and told myself “write!”
VERSE:
The tall grass is blowing
As I ride out to where I miss you
I feel my blood flowing
As I remember what you had to do
You had to ride away
In that distant prairie sunset
The twilight seemed to sway
A feeling that I’ll never forget
PRE:
It’s like my heart has left me
To join the skies above me
I take a breath
Understanding I’m still here
CHORUS:
Horses and Mars
Those beat up old guitars
The music that was ours
And the touch of your fingers
Horses and Mars
I look up to the stars
Remember what was ours
Yet the sadness lingers
Horses and Mars
Horses and Mars
Forever
VERSE:
We would strum by the campfire
Sounds that always soothed our souls
Always something to inspire
And to fulfill our simple roles
Sitting there in the moonlight
We’d marvel at the universe
Infinity shining bright
But all of starlight must disperse
PRE:
The time will come for all of us
I never really liked to discuss
But now I know
It will all be okay
CHORUS:
Horses and Mars
Those beat up old guitars
The music that was ours
And the touch of your fingers
Horses and Mars
I look up to the stars
Remember what was ours
Yet the sadness lingers
Horses and Mars
Horses and Mars
Forever
