The Warrior (acoustic gtr/vocal demo)
Jeff Gordon
July 10 - Skirmish. Got this in right on the hour, had the lyric and basic melody in 30 minutes. Takes me the rest of the time to get a decent take. Fun but nerve-wracking at the end!
VERSE:
The smoke slowly rises
The prairie wakes at dawn
A father with his full-grown son
He’ll soon be passing the baton
His training days are over
He trusts in Mother Earth
To lead him and to guide him
In what he’s been learning since birth
CHORUS:
The Warrior is kind
The Warrior stops and listens
The Warrior doesn’t push
Weaker folks around
The Warrior is strong
But never wants to flaunt it
Only uses his might
To honor the dead
VERSE:
Now he’ll tell the stories
As they’ve been told before
Live his life with honor
Protects his family to the core
He’s honest with his fear
Doesn’t let it blind him
In battle fights with honor
No matter how hard or grim
CHORUS:
The Warrior is kind
The Warrior stops and listens
The Warrior doesn’t push
Weaker folks around
The Warrior is strong
But never wants to flaunt it
Only uses his might
To honor the dead
