Forty Days
Paul Lisney
This a song for the lenten season, contemplating what it must have been like for Jesus during His 40 days in the desert after being baptized by St. John, His cousin.
Forty Days
To the desert Jesus Christ was led
And for forty days was tempted
We will never know all He endured
And suffered for our offenses
Surely He was shown the countless souls
Who through Him would find redemption
But the pain He felt at just one lost soul
I can’t even imagine
In my heart I know His trial was real
And for forty days He was tempted
But I’m so detached and feel so removed
That my mind can’t quite grasp it
No food, no drink, and on His own
In union with His Father
If the mystic saints were bruised and hurt
How much more-so was our Master
In my heart I know His trial was real
And for forty days He was tempted
And I want so much to understand
But my mind can’t quite grasp it
Obedient is the Son of God
Finishing the task of Moses
And repairing for the old man’s sin
For with thorns will bloom the roses
From the desert Jesus Christ was led
And set it all in motion
Every moment of his life was spent
On the Cross for our salvation
