Greetings from Srbrenica
rinyville
After Mladic had been caught I thought about that dark page in history and my visit to Bosnia years after the war. Somehow I was never able to understand the massacre of Srbrenica, but can any human being fully understand it.
“I personally never expected Mladic to overrun the enclave, because the world was watching,” says Wim Dijekma, a Communications specialist for the Dutch battalion in Srebrenica.
…yes, the world was watching….
It’s just a short walk from the bus
On to the sideways
Enjoy your last sigh, your breath
There’s the end
Line up, hear the shivers
Of old men
And a click that
You don’t understand
Greetings from Srbrenica
with blue skies in front of you
there are voices behind you
and a noise that now blinds you
and you fall down
when the next ones walk down
and line up in front of you
You walk past
boys and old men
Their silence now louder than
The voices nearby
who say don’t cry just line up
You hear a click and you
understand
Greetings from Srbrenica
with blue skies in front of you
there are voices behind you
and a noise that now blinds you
and you fall down
when the next ones walk down
and line up in front of you
You change the channel
change the station, change your mind
This is something from
way back then
You’re sure this
won’t happen in this life
Till you hear a click
That’s when you understand
Greetings from Srbrenica
with blue skies in front of you
there are voices behind you
and a noise that now blinds you
and you fall down
when the next ones walk down
and line up in front of you
Lovely crystal clear voice - lovely recording quality all the way round. Tender track.
