Antipodes

I woke up at about 6:00am on February 1st, picked up my iPad, opened GarageBand, and immediately noodled out the bass line that became the chorus on this song. And the rest is RPM Challenge history.

The lyrics are about a theory that Flat Earthers apparently used to argue about. If our civilization exists on top of the flat Earth, is there another civilization that exists underneath the flat Earth. The opposite Earth was called the Antipode. I found it funny, reading up on the debate, how vehemently some people laughed it off. It sounded much like the argument against the flat Earth today. Basically, it was sort of what are you stupid? Look at the evidence! I thought it was funny and I stole the debate for this year’s album.

The guitars are all ES 335 Pro. The mix is… not so good. I might have to redo it. We’ll see. I should also mention how the GarageBand drummer function seems to be unable to add fills in 3/4 time. It just turns into Keith Moon, basically soloing throughout the entire song. I like when drummers overplay, but this is just dumb. Oh well.

Chorus:

What lies beneath
What lives below
Its such conceit
You cannot know

Verse 1:

There are actually people who really believe
there is some kind of race down beneath our feet
if you were to believe them then you’d have to say
there’s a civilization that we’ll never see

Verse 2:

upward is downward and downward is up
daytime is nighttime and darkness is light
The Earth is above them the sky is below
foreward is backward and that can’t be right

Bridge:

Don’t believe it
