Stab Me in the Back

2026 RPM Challenge idea number three becomes finished song number seven.

Is it obvious that I started dumbing things down just so I could get the 9/8 time signature to work? I don’t think I’ve ever written anything in 9/8 before. I mean, who am I, Genesis? (That’s a little Supper’s Ready joke for the prog rock fans in the house)

Is it also obvious that I am speed mixing all of this? My wife and I are on an epic road trip (home is Massachusetts, this mix was completed in Kentucky) and I am spending every available minute trying to mix 16 songs so I can have a finished project before the end of February. RPM Challenge, folks!

All guitar parts are a Gibson Les Paul Custom into a Fender Bassbreaker 15. No pedals this year, just plugged straight in.

Verse 1 & 3
So long to go
and don’t you know
we’ll make it so
so far below

The longest day
the hardest way
what do you say
where here to stay

Verse 2
You know my name
We’re not the same
You take the blame
A cryin’ shame

Can’t get enough
of sleeping rough
I call your bluff
The times are tough

Chorus
We cannot pretend
this is not the end
Find another way
Make it through today

There is no relief
From the endless sleep
Stab me in the back
On the full attack

Break
Breaking the chains
Goodnight to you
(2x)
