Time for a Change
Robert James
This song started out as an instrumental jam called Goldfish way back in 1988 when I was about 16 or 17 years old. It was Mike on bass, Jeff on drums, Jim on keys, and some fat red head on guitar. Later, probably around June of 1988 (I don’t know why I remember that) I took my first ever stab at writing lyrics. I fudged out a melody for Goldfish, and Time for a Change was born. Officially the first song I ever wrote or cowrote in its entirety. Jim scrapped my simple melody and replaced it with his own. The song is pretty much garbage, but when we were 17 and just starting to write songs rather than riffs to jam on it was the absolute pinnacle of awesome. With the song’s 25 birthday coming up, I just had to bring it back to life, even if just for a few minutes in a crappy GarageBand demo.
