This song is probably, both musically and lyrically, the craziest thing I’ve ever done. There’s a lot of threads that provoked it… the most important is the scriptural idea of the year of Jubilee… every 7 years all debts were forgiven, and all slaves were freed. And every 50 years, everyone got back their ancestral land, even if they had to sell it for money. Wish I could have gotten the second half of verse 2 more intelligible- (it is “the bars constrict the walkway with a strength that’s forged of fear to give access to the masses for the ones who hold the shears”). Oh well, you can’t have everything! Enjoy the music!
