World Without Heroes
Tom Harter
Last song written for the 2011 RPM challenge. It’s about the decline of musical quality in the world… and perhaps in my own musical efforts.
Lyrics:
It’s becoming a world without heroes
We’re leading a life without dreams
Our heartbeat leaves us breathless
While we’re coming apart at the seams
We watch the music failing
And we fail to intercede
Leaving artists as just devils now
Lost on late night TV
World without heroes
Fires burn deep inside me
Somewhere I used to live
I’ve forgotten how to sing now
I can’t recall how to give
Logic will not save me now
My mind grows deep in clouds
I need to hear a child’s heart
Screaming right out loud
But it’s a world without heroes
Â
I’ve driven down empty highways
In an early morning haze
But the world presses on me now
With the weight of broken days
I’ve taken drink and dancing
Just as far as I can go
But my heart keeps on telling me
There is so much more to know
In this world without heroes
Â
Once a value was placed on quality
That convenience now has quelled
The magic of technology
An evil magician’s spell
The digital world shines brightly
And we think that it’s alive
But ones and zeroes just make noises
Like ants in their busy hive.
