THE REST Tim Robinson 2006

It’s a hard remember, long in the deep
Cat in the cradle, wolf in the sheep
The con in the promise, the thorn, I suppose
The tear in the fold of a perfect rose

There are openings – shit falls through
The worst, and oh, the best of you
You were running by a river on a rain swept night
You were young and yeah, the moon was bright

Then the rest happened, all of the rest
The rust red sun in the west
The rest happened, all of the rest
Can you look back lovin’ now, that’s the test

Violent things, birth, and time
Bones stretching cross the borderlines
You were bending to the river to see yourself
It wasn’t you, but hey, it wasn’t anybody else

It was no one moment, just one sound
Longer shadows on the harder ground
The river rushing as you came to a road
A dust-brown car, and then, you know…

CHORUS:

There was a thin man worth some fleshing out
A one-eyed poet, roustabout
But the morning flashes and the moment’s gone
And there’s nothing but the stone that you’re standing on

Shining cities, two pale girls
Old stories ‘bout a brand new world
Bare lights hanging from the radio dials
Songs, then screams, then after a while

CHORUS:
