Speech Problems V2
The most experimental of the pieces in the album.
Shawn Klein, a long-time internet friend, shares my interest in sound. He is a radio host and has various radio programs on the Global Voice internet radio, including one where he explores many curiosities and oddities (mostly of the acoustic variety).
Shawn an I have shared ideas and had many interesting discussions about music, sound, sound synthesis/design/processing.
As part of my experiments for the RPM, I had been playing around with voice a little bit. Shawn had recently been playing aroun with internet programs which use AI to ‘optimize’ or ‘clean up’ speech audio clips. Turns out the algorithms can easily be tricked to find phonemes and even words and small sentences that are not there when they are fed with non-speech sounds.
Shawn shared a long audio clip which he had created by feeding an experimental piano piece to one such AI program.
I cut some of the most usable parts of that clip and used them to assemble this music piece.
There were many more experiments that were left unfinished and ideas I did not even get a chance to try… - leaving me enough material and ideas to explore and create from for the rest of the year!
