Heartwood
am/fm dreams
moving back and forth
doesn’t have to take very much force
oh but standing up straight, it does
crowding doesn’t count much when you are trying to limb out
can we get down to the roots of us
small connections can be found
buried deep beneath the ground
stick around it’s give and take
cause heartwood’s not that heard to break
i’m more bark than bite
far less menacing in broad daylight
hide beneath my shade from the glaring sun
climb me to the top
but some limbs they tend to break and drop
only holding weight for so long
seasons come, the weather change
the only thing that stays the same
with a stone these words engrave
“heartwood’s not that hard to break”
moving’s hard to do when we are anchored by the roots
in the soil that our seeds fell upon
the only travelling we did was being blown here by the wind
ands now we’ve grown so tall the two of us
into the air
we’re quite a pair
oh some people just assume that we don’t love or cry or care
but to say that we don’t feel is a mistake
because heartwood’s not that heard to break
