my vision’s blurry round the opening of your mouth
and i’m not so sure it’s sound that’s coming out
just take the time to form the consonants and vowels
cause i’m not a lip reader
never learned how

not for lack of wanting
mistaken vocab from a covert list
while you’re replying
i’m trying to guess
i guess i’m trying

make direct eye contact and stand to face the crowd
and if there’s manuscript please hand it out
maybe closed-caption applications are allowed
but if not please the volume up real loud

could it be you’re mumbling
try to make some gestures with your hands
please give me something
i want to, i want to
i want to understand

your mouth expounds important facts
to me recount
and i’m not a lip reader
so spell it out
