Bismillah - Zikr Dances

This collection of Dance Prayers arose over three consecutive sacred dance evening in May and June 2001. The first track represents this prayer coming through totally improvised and raw, being recorded 20 minutes prior to an evening when we danced variations from this melody interspersed with walking silences. In fact all the dances in this collection emerged in the same way, spontaneously directly before a dance session.

Track 4 is taken from the following dance session. The rest of the tracks come from the third session.

The singers / dancers were Jean Bentley, Anne Buchanan, Uwe Morgenstern and myself. Obviously it was the first time through for all of us.

Perhaps some of the unique energy of these evenings manages to come through in the music but it is worth saying that what has been recorded is a sacred practice not a collection of songs.
