LEM
Lunar Excursion Module. A science fiction writer. Lagrange points. The moon doesn’t seem so far away sometimes. Memories.
I awoke today and everything was blue
And I knew that all the answers were on the moon
So I found an old Russian ship with fuel left in the cells and lifted off at 3 am
Climbed the gravity well
I leaned my head against the glass and looked into the endless night
Drifted up and fell asleep for my 4-day flight
To where the only answer
Is no answer
And nothing’s left at all
I awoke today and everything was green
The ship was down in the Tranquility Sea
I suited up and opened the hatch, headed for Moon Base 3
Calling out on all channels “Are you there? Do you receive?”
But the only answer
Is no answer
There’s no one else at all
I awoke today and everything was gray
I think this world is fading away
I watched the Earth rise, returned to my ship, and left the Moon below
Started the long fall down to home
Nowhere else to go
I stopped in space at a place once called Lagrange point 5
Floating between the Earth and Moon, I drift and wonder why
The only answer
Is no answer
And nothing helps at all
Caught between two zeros
Nowhere to go
