Boomerang (with DoktorDoktor)

The song is about a recursive process of practicing and returning again and again. Through practice and concentration, time seems to slow down to the point where intentional action becomes easier and thus more natural. I think of the example of a skilled football player mentioning how time slows down and internal voices go silent when they are about to catch or kick a ball.

The feelings that the song refers to are reactions to the words we attach to these emotions. The words and reactions are learned behaviors. The words themselves are not felt. Not “hearing the feeling” is something I made up to describe immediate reactions to the words we attach to emotions. It’s often the interpretations of emotions and reactions to the interpretations that cause us issues – the emotions themselves are wordless and thus are open to multiple interpretations. When we say, “I feel like I should do this,” that is an interpretation of an emotion in words and feeling compelled to take an action. We can catch our knee-jerk reactions/feelings (and interpretations) in the moment (via daily concentration exercises) and instead choose a more intentional response. So I tried to add more angelic harmonized voices at the end of the song to symbolize our souls telling us to be intentional because the soul doesn’t “hear the feelings” (i.e., react to emotions).

Brush my hands upon the cloud
Push that button, wait around, hope begets that sound
Feel the feeling that’s around
Dogs then bark, door soon opens, heart begins to pound
Reveal the reeling yet hold my ground
I’ve done this once, now done this twice
A third is bound to sound:

Slow the boomerang

I only feel the feeling
Not a feeling that’s been heard
Words can’t describe it
It’s a feeling that I’ve learned

Never mind the feelings once again
Descend the steps, wipe my tears, hotel clowns drown the sound
Light a candle, wash away my sin
Candle wax fingerprint, thrown, return again:

Slow the boomerang

Slow slow reaction down
Hands grow softer hearts grow warmer
Another time around
Reveal the feelings yet touch ground
We’ve done this twice, soon done thrice,
a catch soon touches down
A slow mo throw comes around
We’ll be ready, catch us then, next time come around

Slow the boomerang

I never heard the feeling
I never heard the feeling, darling
