Videogame Dreams
This is another song for my Hyperphantasia album, dealing with dreams, daydreams, fantasies, and imagination. The inspiration was a challenge in the Deluge synth discord group to make a song using a single kit. I compiled a bunch of sounds from some of my favorite videogames and sequenced a beat, then added an accompaniment with my Typhon synth. As a kid I was huge into NES and SNES gaming, and I would write stories, draw pictures, and have tons of dreams about them. This piece is meant to evoke some of those memories and experiences with a silly/serious mishmash.
My kit had exactly 64 sounds in it, from the following games: Sim City (for the percussion), Metroid, Bubble Bobble, Super Mario Bros (1-3), Super Mario World, Yoshi’s Story, Tetris Attack, Super Metroid, Star Fox, The Legend of Zelda, TLoZ: A Link To The Past, Final Fantasy III (aka FFVI), and one meme sound from an anime to round it out.
Thanks Aaron! Yeah, the nostalgia is real. When I play some of those old classic NES games on an emulator, I'm amazed that young me was patient and dedicated enough to struggle through.
