December Day
Colleen Dillon
well this will be kind of random for my listeners… but what the “hey” as they say!
In a bit of a writing desert lately, but had a lovely walk two days ago, and got inspired by the sounds coming from newly frozen ice with at least 1000 migrating swans resting on it… (maybe a few geese and ducks mixed in here and there). So with the birds as backup singers, here’s my brief ode to the migrating trumpeter swans!
DECEMBER DAY
Basking in the glow of the early morning light
Maybe today they’re going to take flight
Calling to one another with joy and delight
Thousands of swans resting there on the ice
Thousands of swans resting there on the ice
So many birds all talking at once
Each voice important to the health of the bunch
I guess they’re like us with something to say
In hopes that tomorrow will be a good day
In hopes that tomorrow will be a good day
All alone on this wooded path
Hearing the swans say goodbye to the past
December has come and we’re all going to last
Until another spring comes
Until another spring comes
These old boots still show me the way
Through the trumpets of swans who know how to play
On a trail through the woods alone with my thoughts
Giving thanks for my blessings today
Giving thanks for my blessings today

Very nice...would love to have seen the swans...you painted a nice picture with your words.
This brought a smile! I love the backup singers. They mix with the uke and your voice perfectly. Excellent message as well. Favorite, Favorite, Favorite🦢
