Coeur Machant

The psychedelic kitchen sink. Shreya's understated vocals about mythological things, the sound of the aurora, a droning wine glass, understated guitar, a fretless bass solo... I had a khoomei (throat singing) bit that resonated with the wine…

This is actually a combo of three pieces: Shreya's song "Cry of the Banshee", my song "Strange High House In The Mist", and some open mic poetry under the title "The Skull."
Needs a bit of cleaning up, maybe, but I think I did a good job channeling…

That didn't stop her.
Main vocals/bleeps by Shreya, keys and backing vocals by me. Actually, my baby daughter was in my arms while I was doing those vocals and she started crying. Even though I cropped that part, I didn't use any noise reduction…

I have to give credit to my baby daughter Amelia for inspiring the basic groove of this song. No vocals yet.

This one varies between having a rock-ambient feel and more playful as well. It's long, but you have to stick around for a fun part at the end!

First draft.
Dedicated to my mother on her birthday.
In the outro: Trombone, Horns, Clarinets, Mouthpiece buzz by Andy Hentz (arrsuarez) and organic drum related sounds by Glu.

A quick transitional piece - sort of a hybrid of ambient drone and louder rock.

MMi wrote the song. I programmed percussion, recorded tabla and vocals.

It's not much of a life trapped inside a cocoon of your own making.
Finale from "Dead In The Water" album.
A longer track, but it's worth the time to fully digest.

This was the first song Shreya played me, and she said it came to her in a dream, and I believe it. It's flooring, and her vocals/acoustic guitar are relatively untouched. I added the other virtual instruments, and if you listen carefully, you…

This song was written to celebrate freedom, actually, (the Russian at the end is one of the dudes from Freesound.com saying "sound should be free!") after a decade when I wasn't. Props to Shreya, who apparently is like me and will just not go…

An acapella bit of Shreya's. She had recorded it to sound super high-pitched, and when I dropped it down a few octaves, was treated to a wonderful Bjork sound. At her request I threw some hip-hop beats underneath and away we go. Scary and sexy…

Shreya's composition, a tale of love and death that is also perhaps a sly reference to the most famous proponent of the ontological argument for you-know-who. This is the dreamy guitar version, and there is also a classical-sounding piano version…

I dig the colors of it all!
Curmudgeon in Johnson’s Dictionary:“manner of pronouncing coeur mechant,Fr. unknown correspondent.” Coeur =‘heart’, mechant =‘bad’. Johnson had lost track of who had given this, and “Fr.” stands for ‘from’. However, Ash published a dictionary in which he took “Fr.” to mean ‘French’ and provided the etymology “from Fr. coeur ‘unknown’, mechant ‘correspondent’.” An embarrassing moment. ’-RandomHouse… For a couple of ‘unknown correspondents’ that works just fine.-Jess
