Listent for different laughs - from giggles to guffaws - in the different string sections, working together (hopefully!). It’s a room of higher-society hopefuls, laughing at each other’s jokes, and I see one woman, powdered hair, large, sweeping dress, laughing uproariously, having just been told some probably taboo joke by an otherwise cultured gentleman. Is her laugh genuine, or does she mean simply to please her suitor?
