Austerity (2014)

Bleak music for bleak times.

Ahead of Workfare being introduced in the UK in April 2014...
Austerity
"The plan is working", our glorious leader David Cameron constantly informs us. If the plan is more unemployment, poverty, austerity and curtailed rights, then yes - it certainly is.

RADIO FRANKENSTEIN INTERNATIONAL (2013)

12 tracks by Frankenstein Sound Lab

Our "radio noise" album - it had to happen. Incorporating lots of random stuff found on SW radio.

29:29

Is there anyone out there ?
Did you bring your radio ? Good.
Chinese Whispers
Begins and ends with nuns. But then, doesn't everything ?
Chant
Diffusion
Guest vocalist...a Blackbird.
Metallradiowellen, ja ?
A "new" song made from samples taken from Bessie Smith's 1929 recording of St Louis Blues, with added radio noise. One of those things you try just to see if they work (well my name IS Frankenstein). Check out the original below.
Ah - the good old days back in the old country....

PROJECT X (2011)

from the album PROJECT X
A sonic journey, starting at a weird end-of-the-pier show and ending in a psychotic metal foundry. Or something...
>>> X <<<
Built from samples obtained from photographs via that very handy i2sm programme.
I know EXACTLY what you're thinking.... and the truth is, I dont have a clue as to why its called "Crab Telex Myth".
them damn aliens keep jamming my frequency with their incessent chatter. And bongos.
???? and ???, not to mention ??? ????. But you know how it is.
A preview of the imminent PROJECT X album. The title ? Because it was recorded on the day when the Moon was full in Capricorn. Any occult properties gained therby are purely coincidental.
The dialogue comes from Ingmar Bergan's 1957 film The Seventh Seal. Set in Sweden during the Black Death, it tells of the journey of a medieval knight and a game of chess he plays with the personification of Death, who has come to take his life…read more
The basics of this track were conjured up with a neat little programme called i2sm that converts photos or paintings into sounds [its free - google it]. The music here was generated by a photo of, yes, a Sunflower in an urban backyard.
Based on a Zen proverb. No, really, it is.
Another bit of strangeness from the PROJECT X album. This utilizes part of an old public infomation broadcast about what to do in the event of a nuclear attack.
Your radio has just gone mental...
root & branch, branch & root...
Low Spheres... very different from High Spheres.
This ia a newish track, from the forthcoming album PROJECT X [Malice In Sunderland Records, 2011 sometime].
A true story...well, a true legend, anyway.
Title is an anagram of "Molly the Cat" - see the video !
An element of this track was sampled from a song written and produced by Barry White... can you spot it ?

More Songs About Elves & Flowers (2010)

33 tracks by Frankenstein Sound Lab

A collection of 33 short [sometimes very short] pieces recorded at various times since 2005 and not otherwise released. Due to a severe imagination drought, they've been numbered I to XXXIII instead of being given titles. Clue to the album title ? Check out track IV...

From the album MORE SONGS ABOUT ELVES & FLOWERS [2010] Yes, its very short. Although from another point of view its exactly as long as it needs to be.
From the album MORE SONGS ABOUT ELVES & FLOWERS
I met an old man on the way He wore a mask like Sister Ray And this is what he had to say - "We want more songs about elves & flowers." I asked him - "Are you sure ?" He replied "Yes ! More !"
Track 5
Frankenstein Sound Lab pays homage to the Shangri-Las. After a fashion.
The Frankenstein marching band cuts loose...
A percussive piece created from a photograph by the i2sm programme.
Science - huh ! What is it good for ?
X XXX XX X XX
An enthusiastic audience is so important... that's why we import ours from a sound effects album. Satisfaction guaranteed every time.
Elves & Flowers XIII
Open the box... Dont open the box...
A short rhythmic thing for any belly-dancers in the house.

Elves & Flowers XI - sounds like some kind of strange soccer team...
A little oriental sounding something...

IT WAS A DARK & STORMY NIGHT... (2007)

22 tracks by Frankenstein Sound Lab

Well its not really a concept album. There's a tenuous narrative thread, certainly, concerning the overthrow, flight and subsequent execution of the Pope, but its not really a... Ok, its a concept album. Taking the prophecy of the 12th century St Malachy - that the next Pope will be the last one - this album imagines the overthrow of the Vatican coming to pass, and in the process invokes the ghosts of not only St Malachy but also William Blake. You cant have too many spectres, thats always been our rule of thumb. Incidentally, the title track really was recorded on a dark & stormy night...perhaps some of the elemental ambience transfered itself to the track ? The thunderclaps came from a special effects album, though....

From the album of the same name, this track really was recorded on a dark and stormy night, just to see if any of the elemental turmoil going on outside would lend its ambience to the proceedings. The thunder claps came from a sound effects album…

The fate of the final Pope...beheaded, stake through the heart and buried at a crossroads.(this is fiction - no live Popes were harmed during the making of this track).

JOE MEEK SHALL INHERIT THE EARTH (2005)

16 tracks by Frankenstein Sound Lab

FSL's 5th album and the first to be created using digital technology, so quite appropriate that it bears the name of that maverick British sound engineer, producer and songwriter - Joe Meek. The title track imagines the seconds after Meek's shotgun suicide, with his spirit blasted into orbit like a Telstar satellite.

From the album of the same name, not unreasonably. The first few lines are from Percy Shelley, and coincidentally this track is being posted on the 189th anniversary of this death. And death is what this track is all about, namely the suicide…read more
