Be strong, nothing that is good is easy. Even when everyone seems to be telling you to give up, be true to yourself. This song came to me in a dream. In that dream, I was singing a country song. You have to realize, I am, uh, not really a fan of new country. I am being diplomatic. Anyway, there I was, singing this song (just that line-Face of the Flag) in the dream, complete with a new country style band and backing track. It was freakin’ majestic in all of it’s new country big sound and over the top production. Maybe I should really call it a nightmare. Anyway, I woke myself up and was still hearing it in my head, so I figured “Why not?”, so I blindly dragged my dictation machine over and hummed the melody and the line “Face of the flag” into it for about a minute. You can even hear me say “What the hell, I am doing country now?!?” as I stopped recording. So, I sat on it for over a year and decided this year to give it a go, but minus the new country feel and overtones.
