Was working this twilight horse ride out around lake Grapevine for a while. Had to write a song about it.

SONG OF THE TRAIL

Last night I was riding alone with the herd
The moon and the stars in the night
The smell of the horses and grasses and cows
Made up for the absence of light
And I ride hard. I ride long
And the rhythm, of the hooves on the trailI
Is part of the song

The song of the trail is a wandering song
But, never is aimless, you see
Sometimes it’s hopeful. Sometimes it’s sad
But you’re always there, waiting for me

And the call of the lonesome coyote is part of the song

The song of the trail is older than Time
It’s written across the bright sky
The starer are the reason, the moon is the rhyme
At the heart of that trail lullaby

And the flush of the quail from the bush
