EXPECTING
James Michael Taylor
EXPECTING
I keep expecting to come home and find you here waiting for me
And Time can’t diminish the hopes in my heart or the ghosts in my dreams/sleep
In the darkness and cold sometimes Winter forgets there’s a Spring
And I keep expecting to come home and find you here waiting for me
Turning off Riverside thinking that I’ll see your car on my street
That sinking feeling is one cold reminder of my time at sea
Try to make sense of my lost present tense
but I’m failing
Lost in the past with my heart at half mast
Troubled sailing
Time doesn’t banish the hopes that still cling to the seams in my sheets
My pillow’s depression just echos in spaces between you and me
And I keep expecting to come home and find you here waiting for me
