FOREVER 121211 - COOKIES
James Michael Taylor
FOREVER
She stares out the window. That look in her eye
How deep can her heart know life’s passing her by
The radio’s playing. She holds back a tear
A song she’s forgotten
Holds back the years…Forever
And she says,
“I wish I ’d loved somebody like that.”
“I wish somebody loved me like that.”
I watch thru the window. Pick the burrs from my socks
It’s been a month now since she changed the locks
It cuts like a razor, that look in her eye
She can’t see me or hear my reply…Forever
“I wish I loved somebody like that.”
I said, “You did. You just forget”
“I wish somebody loved me like that.”
“Somebody did.”
Locks on her door. Locks on her heart
Locks that push ships up and down in the dark
I watch thru the window. Scratch my leg thru my sock
It’s been a month now since she wound the clock
The window’s a mirror when it’s dark outside
So she can’t see me or hear my reply…Forever
