Written for Noel MacDuffie’s dance theater piece, Soul Descending, this scene takes place on the morning after William’s funeral and sees the the women of the island resume their mundane tasks, working the land to eek out their existence. Abigail toils with them, but her thoughts cannot escape William and she remains attuned to the land of the dead.
Of all the music from Soul Descending, this one is the least developed, sonically. While it ought to be the most organic-sounding, it’s the only one left 100% synthetic. I hope to rectify this one day with real flutes, wooden percussion, and plucked metallic strings.
