One Word After Another

The lyrics are inspired by King Crimson’s “The World’s My Oyster Soup Kitchen Floor Wax Museum” where each word is connected only to the next word.

This piece takes some liberty with that idea and incorporates phrases, verbs and connecting words. In retrospect, having a chorus might have helped provide a structure and cue to the listener that it isn’t just a spray of random words.

hot dog walking
stick figure
skate on thin
ice water
board walk
in the park
ranger rick
mercer drive home
run derby
winner by a
nose whisker
plucked note
left on the
door

rung on a ladder
tied to
a tree hugger
not a fighter
jet engine roar
crowd pleasing
to the eye
brow beaten
down and out
side ways
to get there
fore warning
of a snow
man woman
child like wonder
why did it have to be
this way
over there but
for the grace of God

bell rings twice
baked potato chips
are down and out
of the picture
taken one sunny
side up in the air
quality
matter of
fact finding mission
airy fairy tale
told by an idiot
signifying nothing
left to say

time
for a break
with the past
sins of the flesh
tone dialing
home fire inside
job on the line
in the sand dune
buggy whip smart
as a fox hound
dog walking at
the Varsity
in Atlanta
