The Last Long Walk
Keith Landry
So, my 2020 started with losing Bandit.
THE LAST LONG WALK
You woke me up at 4AM this morning
And told me that you had to see the sights
I’d read all the signs and heard the warnings
I couldn’t put you through another night
So we walked every mile you’d ever covered
We took our time, no rush to make it home
I think you knew just what the scans discovered
And soon I’d make this walk again alone
I let you ride up front because I couldn’t
Make it there without you by my side
Something tells me that you knew you wouldn’t
Be with me later on the homeward drive
And now you’re gone
I’m packing all your things away for good
I only wish there was some way I could
Apologize for all I’d gotten wrong
If I could make it better, pal, I would
I look to where you always slept and wonder
If I’ll ever really be all right
It comes in waves, and now I’m going under
I think I’ll take that walk again tonight
Because you’re gone
I’ve packed up all your things away for good
I only wish there was some way I could
Apologize for all I’d gotten wrong
If I could bring you back, you know I would
And hard as I keep trying
I can’t stop crying
Thank you for this song. We lost our Winnie on Monday night. 😢
