What's The Yams?
Letter Seventeen
A joke I find hilarious, but almost no one will get. It ended up being a song about old people trying to be hip.
Tim - vocals and drum programming. Clarke - backing vocals, bass, guitars.
What’s The Yams? The Yams, you say?
What’s The Yams? Am I supposed to know?
What’s The Yams? Is this thing for me?
The Yam is the power that be
What’s The Yams? I’ve heard of it before
What’s The Yams? I don’t know
What’s The Yams? Are you asking me?
The Yam is the power that be
So many new things to understand, get past me as I get old
Words and phrases like “The Yams” mean something or so I’m told
I try to keep up as best I can I try to have a clue
Then I hear someone use a brand new phase and it leaves me so confused
CHORUS
Try to stay relevant and keep up with all my friends
But it’s coming at me oh so fast, I can’t always follow trends
The yam brought it out in Richard Pryor, do you know that means?
If I look it up I’m gonna find out it’s patently obscene
CHORUS
Do I give up trying to understand what the kids mean today?
If I put in the effort to show that I know will they hear what I say?
If they hear will they listen to some old guy spouting out hipster words
I have to tell you when I try it feels quite absurd
CHORUS
