Yearning
Letter Seventeen
I tried to write a song that sounded sort of like Peter Gabriel. I’m not sure how close I got, but Megan and Jarrett absolutely killed it on this tune.
I can see you in my mind
Like a dream I can’t forget
I’m reaching out to touch you
But you’re not here yet
I’m so full of longing,
It’s like an aching in my soul.
A sense of belonging,
A search for something I can’t hold.
I’m reaching out,
My heart is calling,
Yearning for something that I can’t find.
I’m reaching out,
My heart is calling,
Yearning for something that’s out of my mind.
I hear your voice in my head
Like a melody I can’t ignore
I’m holding on to every word
That you said before
I’m so full of sadness,
It’s like a storm in my heart.
I’m so full of sorrow,
Searching for a brand new start.
I’m searching for something that I can’t touch,
I’m searching for something that I can’t feel.
I’m searching for something that I can’t find,
I’m searching for something real.
I’ll be here, yearning for you
Till the end of time
I’ll keep holding on
To the hope that you’ll be mine.
Yearning for your touch
Yearning for your kiss
Yearning for the day
We’ll be together like this
There is a stringedesqued instrument doing a boldly subtle bit that sounds like a departure from L17 that I like. Background layered vocal on that third chorus with horns was a nice touch for an outro!
So melancholy! I love that repeating high guitar(?) motif throughout the song. Such a great outro!
