Shaking The Rust Loose
After a long summer of doing stuff other than recording it was time to get back on the horse.
Sonically, this isn’t much of a departure but I am trying a couple of new things technically.
One it that I spent more time on the drums (an achilles heel for sure). They started with Battery 3 but got abused by things like Replicant and Kombinat (AD plugins), EQs, saturators and a gate.
They could still use a ton more work but frankly I got bored of the track.
The other technical thing I did differently was record all the guitar tracks in mono. This is a really simple thing but it creates a few advantages. First, eases the load on my laptop which sometimes gets cranky (which means I can record with lower latency). Second, the mixing task is easier. I’m not really sure I can explain why but it seems that mono signals seem to lend themselves to the crazy layering that I as a guitarist want to do.
Has a feeling of being in between places, like looking out of the window on a long train journey. I think the drums work quite well. Good stuff, welcome back :)
Very nice laid back track. Good idea with the mono recording.
Cool tune.
