Back where I belong
Nick Torres
(Week 5 of 52)
Put my suitcase in the back seat
Hit the road, couldn’t change my mind
But all that glitters, all that shines
Never felt like it was mine
Learned the train lines, dives and bars
Learned to sleep with honking cars
But all the money I was makin’
couldn’t stop my heart from achin’
The grass wasn’t greener like they said
Just a different kind of lonely in my head
drove in circles trying to run
‘til I ended up where I begun
Thought I was running to a dream
I didn’t know what that means
I was gone so long, so wrong
but now I ‘m back where I belong
Pulled in past the water tower
the paint it covers my name
Cars rusting in the side yards
Downtown looks the same
It was home, though I didn’t know
it doesn’t matter how far you go
This small town it was me
it was just too close to see
The grass wasn’t greener like they said
Just a different kind of lonely in my head
drove in circles trying to run
‘til I ended up where I begun
Thought I was running to a dream
I didn’t know what that means
I was gone so long, so wrong
but now I ‘m back where I belong
Yeah, I cursed every empty factory
this dead end life was not for me
Now I’m counting every reason I was wrong
driving around with the windows down
and I think of how we ran through town
On these same old dusty streets
Guess the place that used to cage you
Holds the key once you leave
The grass wasn’t greener like they said
Just a different kind of lonely in my head
drove in circles trying to run
‘til I ended up where I begun
Thought I was running to a dream
I didn’t know what that means
I was gone so long, so wrong
but now I ‘m back where I belong
