This song started with the perfect fifth lick at the beginning of the song, which I came up with while suffering writer's block while working on another piece. Once I added the bass and drum parts, the piece began to pretty much write itself…

This piece, like most of my music, is fairly quiet and pensive. It uses a lot of ostinatos (repeating patterns) as a way to unify the piece and create almost a mantra type of effect. I experimented a little with how I built the chords in the…

Music is one of the ways I choose to express myself. Much of the music I write represents a state of mind I try to achieve, calm reflection. Occasionally, my emotional state might produce something a little more harsh…depends on what’s happening in my life at the time.

I’ve played instruments most of my life beginning with the violin at age 7. I also play or have played some percussion, trombone (slide and valve), the euphonium (kind of a baby tuba), guitar (acoustic and electric, but I don’t play them very well), electric bass guitar, piano, and synthesizer. I currently write, “perform” (not live), and record all of my music on the synthesizer. I hope to eventually use some of the other instruments I play in my music as I gain confidence performing on them again.
