Sharp Like Lemon
A bit of Frankenstein of a song, lyrics cobbled from old lyric fragments, with variations on bass and melody and piano motifs, like I couldn’t make my mind up where it was heading. Something about it, so has made the cut!
Tech Notes
Hmm, that echo is rather long 🤔. Yes, I have used vocal synths (hello, Brian and Jessica). I know they’re not universally popular approaches but they’re my preference.
Lyrics
It bleeds out through the exit wound
Thinning in my veins
Make that call for me
[Why the rush?]
Bare feet on the cold stone
Barely note that chill through me
I know that we, like George’s whisper, were careless
Eyelids closed too tight
Might give away my pain
Sharp like lemon, lemon
[Lemon: one of your five a day]
Shaking on the cold stone
Stirring darkened thoughts in me
I know it’s just a game you play
Give my secrets away
Your loyalty has no meaning
My sparrow to your hawk
Has evil people talk all about us
And me now bleeding out
Compass spinning wild
So who knows where this leads
Like you care
And after night the sunrise
Might not help the dark to recede
Compass spinning wildly
Rotating East and West and back again
Embers fading swift
This won’t turn out right for me
