Catastrophe

This one has potential but I don’t think I pulled it off. It uses a gimmick I used once already this month where the drums are playing in one time signature (in this case it’s 6/8) and the rest of the band is playing in another (7/8). I like doing weird stuff like that and for the most part it works out here.

The problem, I think, is an overall lack of… oomph. It needs to be a whole lot heavier. I was trying to make it a little grungy without being too much, but it needs a lot more gain on the rhythm guitars, a lot more power behind the drums (especially in the chorus), and I think it needs to be at least about 10% faster.

I didn’t have any trouble recording the rhythm guitars (SG-Keeley D&M-Bassbreaker 15) as far as the weird timing was concerned. I didn’t have much trouble with the vocal either, though listening back I think I had more trouble than I realized. The lead guitar through (Les Paul-Keeley D&M-Bassbreaker 15)… the timing had me flailing around like I was dizzy and swinging a stick at a pinata. It just feels wrong and awkward.

Despite all of that, I do like this song. I may have to do it over again in the future.
