Droplets
I wrote the lyrics and melody to this song a week or so ago when I was feeling that unsettling disconnected feeling we all get from time to time when we’re missing the people we love…. Then I gave myself the challenge to try a few things with my uke and rhythms… and that was a battle…. so what the heck, here goes - it’s still a bit rough around the edges…
Droplets

Verse 1:
I’m waiting at the edge of the crowd
Like an outsider looking in
Wishing you were here with me
So this world don’t look so grim
Verse 2:
I’m listening at the edge of the group
This conversation blows
Wishing I could hear your voice
In this world to me that’s closed
Chorus:
Somewhere we try to connect
In bits and drops and pieces
Can’t read the blue print
For the hearts we need to reach us
Somehow we try to connect
In bits and drops and pieces
Can’t seem to find the way
The lessons we learned won’t teach us
Bridge:
Like droplets at the edge of a river
Drifting towards the larger flow
In and out and up and down
Swells that whirl and roll
Verse 3:
I’m walking by myself tonight
The quiet is so oppressive
Hoping I am still your girl
But this world can be deceptive
Repeat Chorus
Ah another gentle gift from you... Sounds like one from the heart. Love your tone, girlfriend! Beautiful and tender.
..also liked the bridge. There is nothing wrong with "...rough around the edges..."
Colleen, I would say you succeeded with your challenge. The Uke sounds nice, and you also succeeded in expressing a complex emotional experience in a clear and touching fashion. It's definitely a gift that you have!
You are all so wonderful! Thanks for the supportive feedback. I'll keep working on making those chord changes smoother and smoother, but I sure appreciate the support!!!!
*OUTSTANDING* That's the best Ukulele I've ever heard. I like the symbolism of *"droplets at the edge of a river"* This might be my new favorite song!
I find charm in the basic style of your recordings. I can't find a better way to phrase it...I'm doing my best to make it as big a compliment as I can.
I especially like the bridge change. Wonderful lyrics as usual
