Skiddaw Stones #1
Mr Sandbags
Yesterday I bought a very lovely sample set from Soniccouture called The Skiddaw Stones.
A Lithophone ( litho = stone, phone= voice ) dating from 1840, The Skiddaw Stones are composed of 61 tuned and shaped rocks, made from the rare hornfels stone, found in Cumbria, England. Hornfels is said to have a superior tone and longer ring than the more commonly used slate.
This is a first brief composition made with Elysium. The sample set includes 3 instruments: wood mallet, rubber mallet, and scrapes. I setup a single instance of Kontakt with the 3 instances on separate MIDI channels.
Elysium played a pattern based on a single layer but using the MIDI override facility to route some notes, with varying probabilities, to each of the MIDI channels to create different textures on the various hits.
This was all done really quickly but just to play with this lovely sample set during a lunch break.
I added a little bit of Eos reverb to taste.
Nice sample set! I love organic sounds like this. Sounds like you're banging away on this stuff in a monastery! In my mind I can hear monks chanting in the background!
I wonder how these would sound with my style of old rock and roll? No pun intended.
ZOMBIE MILKMAN!
