The original notional theme for this album was “We Don’t Talk About That”. Hayden took that notion and ran with it. :)

This was an especially gratifying bit of collaboration and coordination. On the last day of recording, Hayden (in North Carolina) recorded and sent a bass part for his song, to relieve our friend in California, who had been overwhelmed with work and not able to record one as he’d hoped.

Hayden had also requested earlier in the day that “anyone who can actually sing” take a shot at re-recording harmonies/background vocals, so Margaret (here in Huntsville) took some time with the song and lyrics, figured out parts for her and Kenny, and delivered a beautiful performance. (The first few lines of the coda brought me to tears on first playback!)

Hayden Childs - Songwriting, lyrics, vocals, guitars, bass, recording
Margaret Bibb - Vocal arrangement, vocals
Kenny Tannehill - Vocals
Kevin Craig - Drums, recording, mixing

Bite Out Your Tongue

Put a tourniquet around my neck because I have become dead above it
Tell the doctor to save the rest but cut out the parts that are burnt by love

We never talk about it
No, we never talk
We cannot talk about it
No, we cannot talk

Bite out your tongue

Telephonic emergency, I can see you’re a pleaser who can’t please me
Apropos of your urgency, I’m a seamless Caesar in a heedless dream

We never talk about it
No, we cannot talk
We cannot talk about it
No, we never talk

Bite out your tongue

We are not lost
We are not children
We are not voiceless or heartless or stupid
We are not incapable of malice
We are not incapable of truth
We are not incapable, so why can we not talk this through?
