The Joiner – A A J Russe
In the red cup there’s a green cup
Hiding from our sight
But the sweetness of the redness
Cannot make the flavour right
But we sit here together
And we pass the cup around
We drink from it deeply
Till the droplets spill on the ground
There’s a seat that’s been empty since the evening began
It should be filled by the Joiner
A good honest man
Every winter as the year turns
We traders of the town
Gather at the tailor’s
To feast and toast the Crown
The red wine flowing freely
Our bellies full of meat
The poor man and his children
Hear our singing from the street
Still we sit here together
We praise our freedom to trade
We curse the ne’er-do-gooders
Who expect free gifts to be made
There’s a seat that’s been empty since the evening began
It should be filled by the Joiner
A good honest man
In the snow down by the west gate
There’s a crimson stain of blood
And a knife beside the body
And a single velvet glove
The killer sits among us
But no-one dare admit
Who has killed the Joiner
Why we benefit
But we sit here together
We pass the cup around
We drink from it deeply
Till the droplets spill on the ground
There’s a seat that’s been empty since the evening began
It should be filled by the Joiner
A good honest man

So Damn Stately! You truly embrace the knightly lineage that surely must flow through your veins. Awesome musical piece!
Well done.
