The Old Stone Bridge
Guitars/Keyboards/Pennywhistles: Doug Sparling
Composer: Doug Sparling
Recorded: 2005
This was my “signature” track several years ago. I wrote this on guitar in the mid-90s while I was getting divorced, but later renamed it and recorded it after spending some time in Malin, County Donegal, Ireland. A tribute to the old stone bridge (built the 1800s) leading into Malin. Also featured on a McDonalds charity site.
Doug, sorry for your sad circumstances while writing it, but I love this piece. I've been playing pennywhistle for more than 30 years, and this is easily one of my favorites. I have a playlist of peaceful songs that I use while teaching calligraphy (and incidentally, also gets played in stressful traffic, too) and this song is on that list. I would love to get sheet music for it, if you have it available.
Mmm, I see I must think of a different adjective other than lovely. Oh hell to it, these tunes are all LOVELY.
Certainly a very lovely piece. I like the harmony with the whistles too.
Nice Doug, thanks for sharing.
