ThirdLounge is a experimental music project by Matthew Veith aimed at bridging genres in bizarre ways. Conceived in 2008, the idea was to make music with no real plan in mind, instead laying down individual melodies, percussion, and even voices, gradually resulting in a cohesive melody. This approach yields tracks that are distinct and unique. And the name?

“Third” is a term arising from another term, “Third Culture.” An individual creates their own culture when they are immersed in a culture that is not their own home culture. This new personalized culture is called their “third culture.” This “third culture” idea can be extended to music. A lounge is a place of rest, a place where people relax and enjoy company, often with music. It can also be a place where culture if formed.

Hence, “ThirdLounge” comes to represent a safe haven where different concepts and elements mix, forming new ideas about how music can affect people. That is the philosophy of ThirdLounge.
