Ghani Khan was an amazing poet and I’m always awed by his descriptions and sincerity. And I don’t even speak his language! Please read his poetry at http://www.pashtoonkhwa.com/files/books/ghanikhan_poetry.pdf (it has translations) if you like poems, songs, etc.
So, when it comes to his songs, I get ultra cautious. I Cannot fool around, mess about like I usually do, it just feels dishonorable.
So I take my time with them. I ask my friend to do the vocals in the original language because 1) that is how the poem was intended to be and 2)I want to distill the impact of the poem, or rather what I feel through when I read them, to the best of my ability.
This is the second time btw, the first is here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cIR3yX0A8Kc). The second time I had a dilemma too. Heavy reverb or not? I mean, reverb automatically adds the magic, but then you can basically pluck one string and let it do the work, but then again doing it without the fake space is a better challenge. I added moderate reverb in the end, and made weird ringy noises with the guitar to mimic organic sounds that a rabab (pushto string instrument) might play.

always in search for inspirations! sometimes i will write a song about something so gut wrenching just to get the feel right and then change the words to something im comfortable saying to others. i really like this.
