“A Whiff of an Epiphany”

A sharp burst of air
cuts through the fanfare
dries the idealized fantastic madness
and the layer of satirical political sadness

Release my hold on the dream
Melt the nightmare’s frozen scream
The sum of it all stands here in my place
Win or lose, is humanity a race?

Can I take a direction that’s not a connection
to a fear or a doubt or a quest for perfection?
Gazing at the surface just to see past it
Can only imagine the eternal waste basket

I let go of the kite and the cloud
Ought I whisper or sing out loud?
Don’t want to be shaped by what’s haphazardly around me
Just want to have my two feet on the ground

Overlapping voices / A glutton for choices
Imprisoned by my own need to be free
For a man to rise must a dreamer fall
Will the fresh air flow when I break this glass wall?
