Elephants In The Room
Carla & Paul aka Butterfly Division
On the last day of summer
The day before school
It started in the water
Everything was cool
Until we saw this thing appear
It didn’t have a sound
This darkness in the water
Looked like a shroud
First
I thought
“I’m trippin’”
There’s no way it’s real
And I tried to dismiss it
But couldn’t shake the feel
And someone started cryin’
Then someone started screamin’
And I felt guilty when I said
“Come on
Guys
Stop bein’ dramatic”
And there are elephants in the room
That don’t make a sound
And darkness in the water
That’s spreadin’ all around
And I tried to make sense of it
But don’t understand
And you know what they say
When you wanna hear God laugh
Tell him your plans
But I gotta laugh about it now
Because we’re all still here
Well
As far as I know
I mean
I’m still here
And I haven’t talked to any of them
Since that day
Not because of that
But because life gets in the way
And there are elephants in the room
That don’t make a sound
And darkness in the water
That’s spreadin’ all around
And I tried to make sense of it
But don’t understand
And you know what they say
When you wanna hear God laugh
Tell him your plans
Well
I think
I don’t really know
For all I know
I could be the only one
And all this darkness is just
The thoughts in my head
But the only thing that is real
Is my body on this bed
