Evening
Gently, as nighttime
Falls into my mind
I clutch to my side
The dying bottle of wine
My bed is a broken down
Merry-go-round
The world is receding
Like carnival sounds
There’s a lonely old phantom
Freewheeling through time
And you can go with him
For a nickel or dime…
And he sings of the darkness
Before the first day
And he sings of the rain
That fell on Pompeii
And he sings of the mountains
That will crumble away
And he sings of the forests
Where lovers still stray
Gently, as nighttime
Falls into my mind
I clutch to my side
The dying bottle of wine
My bed is a broken down
Merry-go-round
The world is receding
Like carnival sounds
